Santiago Jerez, Ñaño, was born August 27th 1978 in
Chascomús, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
To begin with, since the earliest years of his life, he showed
an incredible musical gift, but it was not until he was eight
that he started to study music at the local conservatory. At
this place, he took teacher training classes in piano, singing,
organ and musical education. He too took an electro-acustic
music degree at the National University of Quilmes (Universidad
Nacional de Quilmes, BA, Argentina). Finally, he is presently
taking teacher training classes in piano at higher and more
advanced levels at Gilardo Gilardi Conservatory in La Plata
city, BA, Argentina.
In 1997, at the age of eighteen, he began working as a music
teacher in various state schools from Buenos Aires Province. In
the present days he is a permanent, teacher-in-charge, at a
local school in his hometown, Chascomús. This position he got
through a selection process involving interviews and competitive
examinations. By the same process, since 2000 and up to these
days, he has gotten a position as teacher of piano at the local
conservatory.
He is a performer, composer and loves composing songs. This
ability he has shown since his childhood. But not only music is
one of his many treats. He feels a great passion for languages
such as English and Portuguese, both of which he has too been in
contact with and studied through his childhood years.
“Ñaño”, as children are used to calling him, has a flourishing
project based on solidarity, for which friends and collaborators
help him to take it far beyond the present-time stage. By means
of this project, Ñaño plans to integrate children who belong to
low financial resources families from different neighborhoods in
the city area of Chascomús. Nowadays he is working with deaf
children from a school of highly specialized education and some
girls from Saint Joseph Girls School (Hogar de Niñas San José).
‘Ñaño’s Gang’ (La Patota de Ñaño), a musical show for kids,
arose out of this loving plan. Since its first stage show and up
to now, Ñaño’s Gang has gone for several on-stage charity
performances. It is also important to highlight that it is
Ñaño’s Gang staff itself which shows the most interest when it
comes to help children who attend everyday to schools where they
are given lunch, since their families cannot properly feed them.
Ñaño feels he is one
more of the kids who follow him gang-fashion, and it is his own
wished dream that this project continues going far beyond its
present frontiers. Ñaño means to be able to bring love, peace,
joy, moral values and solidarity to every single kind in the
world.
